Mary Louise Frye, a constant advocate and lover of animals, passed away after losing her battle with cancer on Friday, November 13, 2009 at 12:15 PM at the home of her sister, Betty Blaylock, who lovingly cared for her in recent days. To all who knew Mary, they knew her strength and determination were as powerful as her love for animals.
Born March 11, 1948 to Virginia and James Newcomb, Mary grew up on the Orme's farm on Evergreen Mills Road in Leesburg, VA with her sister Betty Blaylock. Even then, Mary was an avid lover of nature and animals. Mary graduated from Loudoun County High School in 1966, and then went to work for the US Department of Agriculture (USDA), Foreign Agriculture Services Branch for approximately nine years.
In 1968, Mary married Ronnie Frye, and Ronnie was drafted into the Army that very year. He was sent to be stationed in Louisville, Kentucky and Mary transferred there with her position at USDA to be with Ronnie. They were there only five months when Ronnie was sent to Vietnam, and Mary moved back to the Leesburg area and continued to work for USDA. Mary later went on to run her own business, Country Dry Wall Company 1980-1989. After this, Mary worked doing book-keeping and office work at various companies. Mary also worked as a bar tender on the weekends at the Eagles Club in Brunswick, Maryland approximately ten years ago. Mary was also active in rescuing and rehabilitating animals, working with several rescue leagues over the years.
Her latest employment was with TNT Services Group, starting August 2006 as an Accounting Assistant. This Company meant the world to Mary, and she worked until she just was not strong enough to get up any longer. She loved TNT Services Group, and her co-workers became a second family there.
Prior to Mary's battles with cancer, no one could ever slow her down. She was independent, energetic, and always had a witty remark for everything. Mary will be sorely missed. Mary is survived by her mother, Virginia Newcomb, her sister, Betty Blaylock, her niece and nephew Sharon Signor and JC Blaylock, her great-nephew James Signor, and many other beloved family members.
A Memorial Service will be held at Colonial Funeral Home at 201 Edwards Ferry Rd. NE, Leesburg, VA 20176 on Saturday, November 21, 2009 with visitation starting at 3:00 PM and the memorial service at 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to your local animal rescue league or the American Cancer Society.
