Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Gladstone, 103, of Leesburg, VA and formerly of Lovettsville, VAand Brunswick, MD passed peacefully unto the Lord Jesus Christ June 8, 2011 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Leesburg, VA. The sixth of eight children of the late Bradley Tyler and Lillie Deahl Halley, she was born on December 30, 1907 in Brunswick and graduated in the Brunswick High School Class of 1926. She worked for several local area businesses including J.J. Newberry and H.N. Werntz before becoming a railroad family homemaker and lifelong Christian of the Baptist faith.
Mary was the wife of the late Lawrence "Buck" Gladstone and the mother of Sylvia L. Carnes of Leesburg and Harold E. Gladstone of Lovettsville. Preceding her in death were two sisters: Mrs. Beaulah Orndorff of Brunswick, Mrs. Lillie Palmissano of Orrtanna, PA; and five brothers: Bradley Halley, Jr., Russell "Bubby" Halley, Charles Halley, Bradley "Dutch" Halley, and Haze Halley all of Brunswick. Surviving are five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends Monday, June 13, 2011 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Rd, NE, Leesburg, VA with a funeral service immediately following with the Reverend Allan Stanford officiating. Interment will be at the Lovettsville Union Cemetery, Lovettsville, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Leesburg Community Church, 835 Lee Ave. SW, Leesburg, VA 20175.
