Obituary

Mary E. Glenn was born April 2, 1944 in Leesburg, VA to the late Earl Elwood and Mary E. Glenn. She went home to be with her Savior on Thursday April 7, 2022 at Inova Loudon Hospital, Lansdowne, VA. She was preceded in death by her two brothers; Carol Edward and James Louis Glenn; six sisters Gertrude Glenn, Eleanor Glenn, Lorraine Fitts, Louise Jackson, Beatrice Nokes and Pearline Hogan.

Merzy, as she was affectionately known, was educated in the Loudon County Public School system, and attended Douglass School. Sis. Glenn came to Christ under the guidance of Rev. Thomas Boykins at a very young age, where she attended Greater Zion Baptist Church (currently The Word Church) in Ashburn, VA. She served faithfully on several committees during her tenure, including Church Treasurer, Pastor's Aide Committee, Assistant Church Clerk, and most notably, the President of the Kitchen Committee. While she took pride in all her appointed positions in the church, her favorite role was her work on the Kitchen Committee. Sis. Glenn followed in her mother's footsteps and was known for her fried chicken and green beans. Some say that she never gave up her spot on the Kitchen Committee and because of that everyone benefitted.

Sis. Glenn worked for many years as a waitress and cook at the Pitt Stop Restaurant before completing her training and obtaining her license as a certified State Day Care Provider. Sis. Glenn was the owner and operator of "Glenn's Day Care" from 1980 to 2011 when her health began to fail. Miss Mary as she was called helped to raise and mentor a professional basketball player & network personality, a doctor, musicians, electricians, general manager, and other successful professionals. She was always there for her children and for the parents who sometimes had to make "alternative arrangements" to keep her services. Miss Mary was the only day care provider who didn't hesitate to feed her children and their parents' breakfast, lunch and oftentimes dinner.

Sis. Glenn was an avid Washington Commanders (Redskins) football fan. She took great pride in her back & forth banter with her nephew Robbie Glenn and Spice Girl #1 (Val Hogan). She enjoyed watching the games and yelling at the TV, especially when Washington played the Cowboys, thus earning her name as Spice Girl #2.

Sis. Mary leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Dee Ellis (Sherwood) and Fran Glenn both of Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren, Terence Glenn (Dani), Andre Glenn of Ashburn, VA; Sierra Ellis and Kendra Glenn of Charlotte, NC; one great-grandson, Logan Glenn, Charlotte, NC; one beloved sister and best friend, Mildred Robinson of Ashburn, VA; one sister-in-law, Roberta Glenn of Kearneysville, WVA.

She also leaves cherished memories with Janet Wiggins, Tracy, Tia and Olivia Dillahunt, Betty Allen, Don Tates and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Thanks for all your support, timeless devotion, and love.
