IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Margaret
Hill
July 31, 1931 – June 25, 2020
A sweet Spirit, Mary Margaret Hill, 88 of Stafford, VA entered into eternal peaceful sleep on June 25, 2020. She was born on July 31, 1931 in Wilmington, NC to the late Norman Burns, Sr and Geneva Larkins. Margaret, as she was called by her family was a very precocious child. At the age of 10, Mary moved to Queens, NY where she graduated from Franklyn K. Lane High School. There she met Julian Ralph Hill; and soon after, they were married.
Mary was a very young wife and mother, but she still managed her time to get three degrees, a Bachelor of Science, in Accounting and Master of Business Administration from Queens College and Master of Resource Management from New York University. These degrees were obtained while she was working full time at Queens College.
Mary worked as a Budget Analyst for the Department of Army, Fort Dix, NJ. In 1992, Mary moved to Stafford, VA, and worked for Department of Navy, Washington, DC, where she worked for several years and retired early from the federal government to raise her grandchildren. She instilled in them the values of education and hard work. Her family was her world. She enjoyed traveling to all family and friends' events. She spent countless hours going door-to door soliciting fundraisers in support of Brook Point High School Band; and attending events, not only for her grandchildren, but for all the children she was connected to.
Mary had a full life, and because of her love for education, she taught in the Stafford County Schools System in the classroom as well as homebound students. She also, taught at Colonial Academy and worked as an Office Administrator at Colonial Baptist Church where she was a faithful member.
Additionally, she worked as an Accounting Administrator for Night Watch Security Systems.
Mary's beautiful home was always open for guests, she never met a stranger. She was warm, compassionate, gracious, elegant, sacrificially loving and loved. She enjoyed gardening, reading and most of all she loved the Lord. Her favorite song was, 'It Is Well With My Soul'.
Mary was a chartered member of the National Council of Negro Women and a member of Black Women in Government where she met and mentored Tina Taylor and they became very close friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Julian Ralph Hill, two sons, Ralph and Eric, brother, Norman Burns, Jr. Mary also leaves to cherish her memories, daughter Anna Maria, brother Louis and his wife Barbara, granddaughter Latrice, grandson Jamel, great granddaughter, Dacia, great-great granddaughter Kaia, aunt Bertha and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
A special thank you to Pastor Creed and his wife Mrs. Barbara Creed, Aquia Police Department, Chief Harmon and Chief Thompson, Sunrise Senior Living and all the family and friends who helped during her Golden Years.
