Mary Louise (née Quinn) Klemm of Ashburn, Virginia peacefully departed in her sleep on May 1, 2020 after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer's, to join her recently departed husband, Wilbur Clayton Klemm, Sr. (deceased February 24, 2020) of 72 years.
Due to the current Covid-19 State Orders, visitation is limited to immediate family only on Friday, May 8th at Colonial Funeral Home of Leesburg, 201 Edwards Ferry Rd., NE, Leesburg, Virginia. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. John the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, 101 Oakcrest Manor Dr., Leesburg, Virginia; unfortunately, also with the same restrictions. A combined interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery sometime in October of this year.
Born January 30, 1928 in Baltimore, Maryland, Mary Lou was the youngest and only daughter of Robert John Quinn, Sr. and Elizabeth Catherine (née Kilchenstein). A true child of The Great Depression survived not only her parents, but her four brothers: Robert (Bob) John, Jr., Rev. Charles (Buck) Henry, John (Johnny) Joseph, Edward (Ed) Bernard, and Clarence (Bud) Cornelius.
Mary Lou graduated from Seton Catholic High School and went to work as a bank teller. Through her best friend she met her future husband Wilbur Clayton Klemm, a Naval Academy Midshipman in 1946 and subsequently married him on August 23, 1947 in Baltimore, Maryland.
Following a 35-year career as a Navy Wife, frequently moving from coast to coast and raising their children, they settled in Chantilly, Virginia until 1989. Following Wilbur's second retirement from the private sector; they built a home in Olathe, Kansas and relocated there. Then in 2013, due to Mary Lou's onset of Alzheimer's, and at her request, they returned back to Northern Virginia and into the retirement community Ashby Ponds located in Ashburn.
She had a particular affection to bears and collected over a hundred of various types and sizes. One of her life goals was to visit every state of the Union. She only missed Alaska. She loved visiting with her grandchildren and took every opportunity to do so.
Mary Lou, is survived by her five children, son W. Clayton Jr., Springfield, Virginia; daughters Mary Gail, spouse of Dr. Davy Joe Harkins, El Dorado, Kansas; Donna Lee, widow of Dean Brown, Burlingham, New York; son Bruce Patrick, life partner of Michele Chamberlain, Ashburn, Virginia; and son Daniel Robert Sr., wife Karen, Leesburg, Virginia; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren, the most recent born January 18, 2020 whom she was able to hold.
The family wishes any flowers would be held for the graveside services at Arlington National Cemetery in October.
