MARY ELLEN THORPE McLEOD of Gainesville, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home on July 21, 2021 after a long illness.  She was born on April 26, 1955 in Abington, PA to Edwin Thomas Thorpe, Jr. and Barbara Twitchell Thorpe.

She grew up in Roslyn, Pennsylvania, and attended Montgomery County Community College majoring in Art.  She loved animals and in addition to housing multiple cats as pets supported several animal causes.  Mary met her husband Brian while living in Colorado in the 1990s.  They relocated to Northern Virginia and married in 2001.

Mary was predeceased by her parents and her brother Edwin Thomas Thorpe III.  She was survived by her husband, Brian Douglas McLeod who passed away December 8, 2021.  She is survived by her sister, Diane Leslie Thorpe of Charleston, West Virginia, and sister-in-law, Gail Brown Thorpe of Belmont, North Carolina, a niece and three nephews.
