In Loving Memory of Mary Louise Westerberg
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Mary Louise Westerberg, on September 15, 2025.
Mary was born on June 16, 1943, in Fredericksburg, Virginia, to the late Roy Paul and Louise (McGee) Wymbs. She grew up in Fredericksburg and later in New Jersey, where she met the love of her life, John J. Westerberg Jr. The two were married on February 23, 1963, and shared 62 devoted years together, raising their family and building a life filled with faith, love, and community.
She is deeply mourned and lovingly remembered by her husband, John; her sister, Martha Lee Sherman; her daughters, Alma L. Westerberg Sander and Mary Jane Westerberg; her grandson, Brandon J. Scott; her granddaughters, Monica A. Larkin and Rachel C. Larkin; and her cherished great-grandchildren.
Mary lived in Hillsboro, Virginia, for 40 years as a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. A woman of faith, she was a longtime member of both Fredericksburg Baptist Church and Hamilton Baptist Church, where she shared her love of music singing in the choirs, leading bible studies and a seniors service group. She found joy in reading her Bible, bird watching, gardening, and caring for animals—many of whom became part of the family, including her beloved cockatiel and her current "fur baby," Catsiopeia.
Active in her community, Mary served as president of the women's club, a Girl Scout leader, and even led the Dog Mart Parade in Fredericksburg for several years. Together with John, she enjoyed outdoor activities and competitive shooting, earning marksmanship qualifications and giving training seminars through their involvement with the Isaac Walton League and the NRA.
Above all, Mary will be remembered for her kindness, her devotion to family, her fighting spirit, and her strong faith that guided her throughout her life.
