Mary Hope Worley – Obituary

Mary Hope Worley, born October 23rd,1938 passed away on June 24th, 2022. Mary Hope was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Lillian Stowers, her brother, Henry Clinton Stowers, and her husband Floyd W. Worley. She is survived by the Stowers, Hope, and Worley families and her close friend, Bruce Wiley.

Mary Hope was born in Upperville, Virginia, moving to Leesburg in 1943, where she spent most of her life. She graduated from Loudoun County High School, received her BS from Madison College, MED from The University of Virginia, and her DED from UCLA.

She had a passion for learning. Most of her professional career was spent in administration in the Fairfax County Public School System. She served as principal of Centerville Elementary, Layton Hall Elementary, and Sleepy Hollow Elementary schools. She was also the founding administrator of Dominion Academy at Leesburg Community Church.

After retirement, Mary Hope pursued a lifelong interest in art and became known as a "local artist ". She enjoyed traveling, was a foodie, always sharing recipes and/or collecting them to go with her extensive collection of cookbooks. She enjoyed keeping up with Leesburg activities, helping to reinstate the Leesburg Fourth of July Parade as a founding member of the Leesburg Daybreak Rotary Club, and shared her love of reading by helping to start a Neighborhood Book Club.

She was always thankful for her extensive family members and many friends, taking great joy and keeping up with them.A private graveside service will be held on July 16 at 10 AM at Union cemetery followed by a Celebration Memorial Service at 11 AM at Leesburg Community Church.
