Michael Duerbeck lost his brave battle with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma on June 6, 2014.

Mike was born on May 22, 1963 in Elmira New York to Margaret and Robert S. Duerbeck.

Mike is survived by his loving family – Cathy, his wife of 27 years, daughters Kelley and Erica, and sons Todd and Jeremy. He is also survived by his mother Margaret Duerbeck of Chipley, FL, brothers Gerard Duerbeck of Chipley, FL and Robert N. Duerbeck of Palm Bay, FL, and sister Gayle Granger of Harrisburg, PA as well as by several nieces and nephews. Mike's father Robert S. Duerbeck recently passed away on May 18, 2014.

Mike graduated from Corning Community College in 1983. He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1985 with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. He received his Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from Villanova University in 1991.

Mike started as a mechanical engineer with General Electric in 1985. He also worked for Martin Marietta, Lockheed Martin, and Orbital Sciences before joining QinetiQ North America (formerly DTRI) in 2005 as a Senior Principal Systems Engineer.

In his spare time Mike enjoyed coaching his kids in baseball and basketball, and had coached in CLLL, GLBR, and CLBL for many years. He enjoyed attending his children's high school games at Loudoun County High School as well as riding dirt bikes, being out on his boat, and playing golf.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 7:00pm at Cornerstone Chapel. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Mike's name to Cornerstone Chapel Making Him Known Building Fund at 742 Miller Drive SE, Leesburg, VA 20175 or Capital Caring, Resource Development Department, 2900 Telestar Court, Falls Church, VA 22042.
