Mr. Michael Kasen, age 84, of Leesburg, Virginia died on the morning of Wednesday, July 10, 2013.
Born on July 27, 1928 in Plymouth, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Peter and Katherina Bukovich Kasenchak. Michael was married on August 16, 1959 to Arline Kasen.
In addition to his wife Arline, Michael is survived by his three children, Michele Kasen, Michael Kasen and his wife Olga, and Kathleen DiGirolamo and her husband Dave, as well as three grandchildren, Jacob, Joshua, and Zachary DiGirolamo. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Samuel Sawka, and several nieces and nephews.
Michael was predeceased by his brother George Kasen and George's wife, Vera Kasen; his sister Helen Sawka; and his sister Mary Bailey and Mary's husband, Leonard Bailey. Also, he was preceded in death by his in-laws, Elmer and Anna Gertenbach and Ursula and George Cuggy.
Michael served in the Army during World War II, and was among the first troops to occupy Japan in 1945. A graduate of Syracuse University, Michael became an architect and went on to design not only his family's home in Great Falls, VA but also St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Great Falls, and St. Peter and Paul Ukranian Catholic Church in his hometown of Plymouth, PA, as well as many other beautiful churches, shopping centers, office buildings, and hotels in the Mid Atlantic Region. In addition to spending time with family and friends, Michael loved to cook, garden, and entertain. In retirement he moved to the beach and volunteered his time, building homes for others through Habitat for Humanity, as well as preparing and serving meals at the Council of Aging in Florida.
Friends may call at the Colonial Funeral Home of Leesburg, 201 Edwards Ferry Road NE, Leesburg, Virginia on Sunday, July 14 from 4-6 P.M.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1020 Springvale Rd, Great Falls, Virginia on Monday, July 15th, 2013 at 10 A.M.
Interment will follow the mass at Fairfax Memorial Park, 9900 Braddock Road, Fairfax, Virginia, followed by a reception at Brion's Grille in Fairfax.
