Obituary

Michael Paul Sable, age 69, a resident of Alexandria, Virginia, passed away Thursday, June 17, 2021, at INOVA Fairfax Hospital. Mike was born on February 18, 1952, in St. Augustine, Florida, to the late John Paul Sable, Sr. and Barbara Ann (Judd) Sable. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an aunt, Cecelia (Sable) Lanning, an uncle, Alfred Judd, and two brothers, Matthew T. Sable and John P. Sable, Jr.

Mike is survived by his wife, Virginia (Macaul) Sable, and his daughter, Virginia Sable. He is survived by his son, Adam Sable, and daughter, Meghan (Sable) Bachert, her husband, Adam Bachert, two grandsons, Noble and Odin, a granddaughter, Penelope, and former spouse, Jackie (Griffin) Sable. He is also survived by three brothers and a sister, David Sable (Gail); Carolyn McCrane (Michael); Mark Sable (Joan); Luke Sable (Denise); a sister-in-law, Carolyn (O'Leary) Sable, two loving aunts, Patricia Judd and JoAnne Burkholder, his uncle, Orange Poe Judd, Jr., and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mike attended St. Louis Elementary School, Bishop Ireton High School and graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1970. He later attended Gulf Coast Community College and graduated from Roanoke College in 1977 with a Bachelor of Liberal Arts Degree. While at Roanoke College, Mike was on the track team and received the "The Homer Bast Award for Outstanding Field Performer" for his success throwing the javelin. He was a proud member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity.

Mike was the founder and President of Frontier Helicopters, Incorporated, in Prattville, Alabama, worked in automobile sales, and most recently enjoyed working with his brother, Mark. Mike was a hard worker and was respected by his co-workers as he was a kind, generous, and witty man who loved to laugh. He was well known for his great sense of humor and his ability to always look on the bright side with positivity and hopefulness.

Mike loved to fish. His father, his uncle, and his cousin, Harry (Bubby) Fairbanks, taught him to be the respected angler he was well-known for on the Salmon River. Mike treasured the times he spent with his grandchildren. He enjoyed playing golf with his family and friends and took joy in the special relationships he shared with cousins, Joe Sliger and Mike Tyree.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you please make donations to the American Cancer Society.

Family, friends, and loved ones will be warmly received at a Celebration of Life Service on Sunday June 27, 2021, from 1:00-3:00 pm, at Colonial Funeral Home of Leesburg, 201 Edwards Ferry Road, NE, Leesburg, Virginia 20176. The visitation will begin at 1:00 pm with the service to be held at 2:00 pm.
