Obituary

Morton "Chip" Riddle IV, age 78, of Lovettsville, VA passed away suddenly on August
31st, 2022 at INOVA Fairfax Hospital surrounded by his family.

Chip was born on November 23rd, 1943 in Louisville, Kentucky to Morton Riddle III and
Frances "Chan" Bullard Riddle. His family moved to Leesburg when he was about 2
years of age. Chip attended Loudoun County High School and Randolph Macon
Academy in Front Royal. After graduation, he attended college at VMI.
Chip worked for Barber and Ross in Leesburg as an architect designing prefab homes.
He started his own custom home building business in the early 70's, Morton Riddle IV
Builders Inc. Chip built his first homes in the Country Club neighborhood in Leesburg.
He specialized in log home renovations and converted barns and log structures into
homes. He won several awards from Loudoun County Preservation Society for his
custom builds. In 2001 Chip moved to Colorado where he built his dream custom home
in the Rocky Mountains.

Chip was a fan of all DC sports, especially the Redskins, and was a season ticket
holder since the 60s. He loved playing tennis and was an amazing golfer. Chip was
involved in youth sports even before his children were old enough to play and helped
develop the youth football program in western Loudoun. He enjoyed attending the
sporting events of all his children and never missed a game.
Chip was an avid reader, reading a new book every few days, mostly about history or
crime. His favorite hobby was creating beautiful gardens and landscapes often using
natural stone. He lived for his Labrador Retrievers and jokingly said he loved dogs
more than he liked most people. He was a lover of all things sweet, especially coffee ice
cream with his mother's famous chocolate sauce. Chip made friends wherever he went,
including people in line at the grocery store, and was always the first to strike up a
conversation.

Chip is survived by his wife of 34 years, Kathryn Sullivan Riddle, daughters Anne Riddle
of Asheville NC, Lynn (Eric) Grieb of Cascade CO, Kauren Nordstrom of Charles Town
WV, and Sarah (Jesse) Shannon of Lovettsville VA, sons Kurt Nordstrom of Leesburg
VA and Kyle (Mara) Nordstrom of Martinsburg WV, ten grandchildren Katy, Emma,
Luke, Landon, Colt, Alexandria, Liv, Owen, Emerson, and Ragnar, sister Emily (Tom)
