Obituary

Nancy Carolyn Hope Lindsey of Leesburg, VA passed away on March 14, 2019.  She was born to Julius Hope and Nina Mae Capps Hope on August 30, 1938 in Chattanooga, TN.  After graduating from Kirkman Technical High School in 1957, she brought her new found secretarial skills to the Washington DC area in search of employment.  She was hired by the Department of the Navy, where she worked until her retirement.  She also found a husband when, as family legend has it, a young man fell off his counter stool at the drug store as he strained to watch her walk by.  That young man, Franklin Delano Roosevelt Lindsey, was fresh out of the Air Force and embarking on a career with the Central Intelligence Agency.  The Lindsey's were one of the early families to inhabit Sterling Park, where they became involved in Little League and the Sterling Golf and Country Club.  Eventually, the family moved to the outskirts of Sterling Park to have some land, and Nancy was able to indulge in her love of gardening. They remained in Old Sterling until retirement, at which point they headed to southwestern VA to be near extended family.  Nancy continued gardening and crafting, and was active in the Marion Baptist Church.   After a number of years living in Chilhowie and Marion, Frank passed and Nancy relocated back to Leesburg, VA in 2013. Nancy was predeceased by her beloved husband of 56+ years, Franklin D.R. Lindsey, and sisters Betty Harlow of Chattanooga, TN and Charlotte Jean Daniels of Gulfport, MS.  She is survived by brother Robert Hope (Faye) of Chattanooga, TN, her son Michael Lindsey (Marti) of Tucson, AZ, daughter Maria Williams (Steve) of Mount Dora, FL, daughter Laura Walsh King (Mark) of Leesburg, VA, as well as grandchildren Erica, Michael, John and Erin, numerous adored nieces and nephews, her precious cat, Smokey, and many treasured friends at Madison House in Leesburg.  Nancy leaves behind a legacy of love, perseverance in the face of adversity and a strong work ethic that the family hopes will pass down from one generation to all others after.
