Nancy Lowry, formerly of Springfield, Virginia, passed away peacefully August 27, 2019 at her daughter's home in Leesburg Virginia surrounded by her children.  She was 85 years old.

Nancy was born in West Mifflin, PA on January 31, 1934.  Throughout her life she had fond memories of her early childhood in a home connected to her grandfather's general store, picnicking with family members at Kennywood, and always being surrounded by extended family.  During the 1940s Nancy's family moved to Howland Corners, OH and then to Warren, OH where she graduated middle and high schools.  Shortly after high school Nancy married Stanley M. Lowry and began a 32-year career as the wife of a military man which took her to 8 U.S. states and 2 foreign countries.  During her 52 years of marriage, Nancy raised 6 children.  Her family grew to 16 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Nancy's joys in life included bowling, golfing, playing cards, sharing stories about living around the world, her extended family, and being an attentive grandmother.  Nancy was well known for selflessly putting others before herself and hosting holiday gatherings at her home.

Nancy was preceded in death by her husband and third child Jeffrey Lowry.  She is survived five of her six children, Shirley Hawkins of Dawsonville, GA; Stanley Lowry, Jr. of Germantown, MD; Karen Thompson of Leesburg, VA; John Lowry of Oak Ridge, NC;  Cynthia Lowry of Manassas, VA; and two brothers, Charles D. McGill of Columbus, OH; and John "Jack" McGill of Wilmington, NC.

Family will receive friends and family September 3, 2019 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and September 4, 2019 from 10 am to 11 am at Colonial Funeral Home of Leesburg, 201 Edwards Ferry Rd NE, Leesburg, VA 20176.  A celebration of life service will follow the September 4, 2019 visitation.  Burial will be Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
