Obituary

Navada Gibson Heflin, 81, of Centreville, VA, passed away on Friday, May 3rd, from complications after surgery to repair a broken hip. A true coal miner's daughter, she was born and raised in Big Stone Gap, Virginia to Tony Lee and Mary Dovey Belcher Gibson. Navada moved to Washington DC after high school with one of her best friends to pursue secretarial work at the Army Map Service, where she met and fell in love with Ron. The two wed in 1962 and celebrated 62 years of marriage in April.

Navada's greatest joy and focus in her life was her family. The youngest of eight children, she had known lean times growing up, and ensured that none of the children in her life ever went without anything they needed or wanted. She always aimed to spoil her grandkids and was forever doting on her two sons, Randy and Jeff. She worked a lot of crossword puzzles (and any visit with family would have us all working together). She was an avid reader of biographies, and she loved beach vacations, especially the "sugar sand" of the Gulf coast.

She was the last surviving among her siblings. She is survived by her husband James Randolph "Ron" Heflin, Sr.; her children James Randolph "Randy" Heflin, Jr (wife Ashley) and Jeffrey Douglas Heflin (wife Katherine); and grandchildren: Alison, Amelia, Zephyr, and Annabelle.

Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 18, at 11 am at Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Road, NE, Leesburg, VA 20176. Visitation will be held 6-7 pm on Friday May 17 at the same location.
