Norma Lynn Miller, experiencing complications following a stroke, died on July 13, 2010. Born in Las Vegas, Nevada, she lived in Nevada until her graduation from the University of Nevada as the Gold Medal Scholar of her class. Starting her professional career in the field of Education in California, she earned her Master's degree in Educational Administration at Stanford University. At the time of her departure from California to follow her husband to Washington D.C. and Loudoun County, Virginia, she had become a Supervisor of California's Project Head-Start and Compensatory Education including Title I and Title III. Before joining the staff of the Loudoun County School District she was Director of the Federally Funded Pre-School in Alexandria, Virginia. As a Reading Resource Coordinator and a Reading Specialist in the Loudoun County School system, she became a strong supporter and implementer of new reading systems for the elementary level students. After 20 years in the elementary education field with experience that started in the Kindergarten Classrooms of Loudoun County and extended into resolving the reading issues of the elementary student she retired as a Supervisor of Elementary Education. She is survived by her niece Linda Madsen of Reno, Nevada and her husband. Her memory will be revisited at Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Rd, NE, Leesburg, Virginia 20176 on July 29, 2010 starting at 11:00 a.m.
