Norma L. Nohre formerly of Purcellville, VA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 29. She was born February 1, 1926, to Floyd and Rachel (Sanden) Griswold in Hesper, Iowa. Most of her younger years were spent in Mabel, Minnesota where she graduated from Mabel High School in 1944. In 1946, she met Carmen O. Nohre, a returning GI and married him 2 years later. The union produced three children. Along the way, Carmen worked as a teacher, farmer, graduate student, and finally a government employee – including a stint as a diplomat in Brussels, Belgium. Throughout it all, Norma was a supportive wife, homemaker, and mother. She enjoyed music, cross-stitching, traveling, and spending time at the beach. Her greatest enjoyment came when she was surrounded by her family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Burr Griswold, her sister Anita Kjome, her husband Carmen O. Nohre, and her eldest daughter Cathy White. Survivors include her remaining children, Debra Wenk (John) and Mark Nohre (Toni), her grandchildren, Dawn Driscoll (Jeff), David White, Brian Clifford (Sharri), Susannah Mengel (Craig), Erik Nohre (Denise), and Jessica Nohre. Additionally, she is survived by her great-grandchildren, Abigail and Alexander Driscoll, Mason and Connor Clifford, and William and Carmen Mengel.
Services will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Leesburg. Visitation will be at the church on October the 9th at 10:30 am with services at 11:00, followed by a reception. Burial will be at Quantico National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church at 605 West Market Street, Leesburg, Va 20176.
