Oliver Dwight Filley, Jr., Colonel, USAF (Retired)
Oliver Dwight (O.D.) Filley, Jr. passed away on April 14, 2010 in Leesburg, VA. O. D. was born October 8, 1918, in Hartford, Connecticut, and grew up on the family farm in Bloomfield where he attended public schools. He attended Peekskill Military Academy in New York on an athletic scholarship where he played football and lacrosse, subsequently joining the Army Air Corps in 1939, a career that he followed in the US Air Force culminating in his retirement in Rapid City, South Dakota after 32 years of service. O. D. was very active in Masonic and Shrine activities. He was married to Marion Shaffer Filley of Bloomfield who preceded him in death in 2002 after 62 years of marriage. He is survived by his son, Oliver Dwight Filley III (Marti) of El Paso, Texas, two grandsons and five great grandsons; and daughter, Barbara F. Gardner (Bob) of Purcellville, Virginia. A service will be held on Friday, April 30th at 2:30 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church in Leesburg,VA with subsequent burial at Mt. View Cemetery in Bloomfield.
