Oran Leaton Cathey, "Buddy", age 84 of Ashburn passed away with his wife and children at the bedside on the morning of June 2, 2018.  He was born June 20, 1933 in Bald Knob, Arkansas.  He is predeceased by his mother, Elizabeth Hollon Castle, his father Oscar Leaton Cathey, and his stepfather, Earl Hobbs, as well as his sisters, Colleen Shouse, Wilma Hammett, and Lucy Walbrecht.

Buddy attended Arkansas State Teachers College and the University of Arkansas. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Arkansas.  He joined the Army Corps of Engineers in Little Rock, Arkansas and then in 1967, he moved to Omaha, Nebraska to begin work with the United States Air Force.  He continued his career as an engineer for the United States Air Force when he moved to Northern Virginia in 1971 to work as a Civil Engineer at the Pentagon.  He retired in 1988.

Buddy is survived by his wife of almost 59 years, Georgie Mae Cathey, whom he married on June 20, 1959.  He is also survived by his three children, Karen Leigh married to John Ottenberg, Darren Leaton married to Maureen Sheridan, and Kimberly Leann married to Jon Kaminer.  He has eight wonderful grandchildren, Stephen Ryan Leaton Cathey, Karrie Leigh Ottenberg, Ryan Connor Cathey, Jacob Leaton Kaminer, John Edward Ottenberg III, Brandon Michael Kaminer, Michael Leaton Ottenberg, and Taylor Grace Kaminer.

Private funeral services for immediate and extended family will be held on June 6, 2018 at noon at Colonial Funeral Home in Leesburg, VA.  Burial will take place at Union Cemetery with the immediate family only following the service.
