Obituary

Patricia Grace Worthington Ward (87), of Leesburg, died December 5 th 2021 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.  Patricia, known to her friends as Trish, was born and educated in England.  After touring Europe on her Vespa scooter and working in Switzerland, she joined the British Foreign Service in 1961 and was posted to Washington, D.C.  When her tour ended, she decided to remain in the United States.  She met her late husband, Donald Rae Ward, at the Leesburg Airport – formerly known as Godfrey Field – flying gliders.  Trish and Don moved to Leesburg in 1979.  She became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1995.

Trish is remembered as a competitive tennis player, professional secretary, community volunteer, beloved friend and family member, and as a member of the St. Augustine of Canterbury Anglican Church.  Above all, she is remembered as a free spirit who lived her life with a fierce independence.

She is survived by her son, CDR Peter W. Ward, USN (retired) of Clarksville MD, daughter-in-law Jennifer Dunson, grandson Brice H. Ward, nieces Mary Rose Woo and Lucy Turner, and nephew Charles Douglass.  She was preceded by her parents, Roger Ernest Worthington and Primrose Grace, and her sisters, Margaret Worthington and Rosemary Douglass.

A memorial service will be held at the Colonial Funeral Home in Leesburg at 11am on Saturday, January 15 th .

Memorial contributions may be made to Loudoun Hunger Relief or to St. Augustine of Canterbury Anglican Church.
