Obituary

A man who stood tall and boldly fought for the freedom of his fellow man. That is how one would describe Paul Mallory.

On November 15, 1929 parents Robert R. and Lilly (Funk) Mallory were blessed with a son, Paul F. Mallory. Paul and his sister, Agnes, were raised on their parents' farm in Fries, Virginia. At the age of 18, Paul entered the United States Army. The army was a hard life, but Paul endured the hardships. Throughout most of his military career, Paul held the position of Army Engineer Core. During his career he served in the Korean War. Over the years Paul was stationed at several different bases; including Japan, Turkey and Germany. While in the Army, he married Margaret Rita Mallory. Together they raised three children; Mary, Paul and Ronald. At the time of his retirement Paul was a Military Warrant Officer. Upon retirement, Paul moved back to his native land of Virginia; a place he loved and knew as home. He was then able to enjoy fishing in the streams and rivers throughout Virginia. Known as a "do-it-yourselfer" he worked in his yard and did the repairs on his home. He was fond of Bluegrass music. In the quiet times, he found himself to be a novelist and surprised many when he actually wrote a book.

Paul passed away on March 17, 2010. While he is no longer with us, his patriotism, his love for "his Virginia", and the beautiful memories will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to have known him. Paul leaves behind his children: Mary Smith of South Riding, VA, Paul Mallory of Woodbridge, VA and Ronald Mallory of Lovettsville, VA; grandchildren Megan, Patrick and Rachel; and sister Agnes Kniesche. His wife of 50 plus years, Margaret, preceded him in death. Also gone before him were parents Robert R. and Lilly (Funk) Mallory. A time of visitation has been set for Monday, March 22, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Rd. NE, Leesburg, VA 20176. A service will follow starting at 11:00 a.m. with Father John Mosimann officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery, Leesburg, VA. At the family's request, memorial donations can be made to the St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 101 Oakcrest Manor Dr, Leesburg, VA 20176.
