Obituary

Paul Marvin Moilanen, 87 of Leesburg, Virginia passed from this life in the arms of his beloved wife on June 23, 2020 after battling cancer.  Paul was born in Laurium, Michigan to the late Henry and Anna Melida Moilanen on September 13, 1932.  Paul is preceded in death by his brother Ronald Moilanen and sister Karen Howard.  Paul is survived by his spouse of 31 years Betty Moilanen as well as three children from his late spouse Roberta Moilanen Coleman,  to include Anita West, Leslie Houser and Lisa (Mike) Fredrickson.  Paul is survived stepchildren Donna (Pete) Plasmier, Michael (Susan) Michko and James (Tara) Michko.  Together Paul and Betty had 17 beautiful grandchildren and eight great grandchildren whom all loved him very much.

Paul was known to many for his sense of humor, whistling and always able to bring a smile to everyone's faces.  Paul's faith was extremely important to him and was a dedicated Lutheran his entire life and continued that through his passing.

Paul pursued a high education at several colleges including Suomi College Seminary before changing his major. He enjoyed playing softball and played minor league baseball for a short period before enlisting in the United States Air Force on June 9, 1952 and remained on active duty during the Korean War until June 9, 1956.  Throughout his life he was employed at Coleman Diary, McKesson Drug Company, then retiring eventually with the Aid Association for Lutherans.

Paul loved singing in church choirs, local theater and was a member of a barber shop singing brigade for many years.  Paul was a member in good standing with civic organizations to include the Elks, Lions, and Rotary.

Paul and Betty spend a good portion of their retirement traveling around the world to places like Paris, Russia, England, Scotland and earned so many more passport stamps including visiting his ancestral home of Finland. During Paul's long and happy life, he resided in many areas of the United States including Michigan, Arkansas, Florida, South Carolina and Virginia.

Visitation will take place at Colonial Funeral Home in Leesburg, VA on Monday, June 29, 2020. The family will begin receiving friends at 10:00 AM, Services will begin at 11:00 AM and Interment will immediately follow funeral services at Union Cemetery in Leesburg, VA. With the Reverend Gerry Johnson of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Leesburg presiding.
