The world is a sadder place in the passing of Paul Michael "Nook" Sims. Paul, a resident of Leesburg, Virginia was 49 years old. He was born in New Britain, Connecticut on November 2, 1959 to Ruth Sims and the late James Sims. He had been employed at Barbar and Ross in Leesburg as a glass cutter.
A 1978 graduate of Loudoun County High School, he was a great football player who was highly valued by his team members and coaches. Paul's love of sports carried over into his adult life. He was often found watching sports of any variety on TV. But none sparked his interest like his beloved Redskins. He was well known to many as a 'diehard' Redskin's fan – trying to never miss watching a game. In his quiet times, he could be found with a fishing pole in hand.
In his younger years Paul would go riding in his much-loved Ford Torino. His buddies were envious of his cool looking car. So they would frequently have Paul drive whenever they went out. Paul made friends easily and was blessed with a personality that drew many friends; all of whom dearly loved and respected him. He was a lively man who enjoyed go-go music and a good game of cards.
Paul had a genuine love for his family. His children readily tell how he was a wonderful, loving father. Uncle Paul had a soft spot for his nieces and nephews. The sound of their laughter was music to his ears. He could be seen making funny faces just to make them laugh. Many times loved ones would be invited to barbeques where he would entertain and share his cooking skills.
Paul is survived by his mother, Ruth Sims; sons Anthony Michael Neal and Eric Jamar Neal; sisters Stephanie Cue, Jacqueline Sims, Beverly Scott, Kristen Sims and Janet Sims; and nieces and nephews Tikisha Cue, Tiffany Cue, Jahmal Cue, Jasmine Cue, Tyrel Ashton, Jacelyn Scott, Tariq Sims and Tevion Cosentine. He was predeceased by his father James Sims.
A man who was loved by all who knew him, he is sure to be dearly missed. But his laughter and love of life will live on whenever one sees a good Redskin game, or cooks one of his dishes, or hears the laughter of a child. Family and friends are invited to share their love of Paul on Saturday, October 17, 2009 between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. at the Mount Zion Methodist Church, 12 North St. NE, Leesburg, VA 20176 where a service will immediately follow starting at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow in the Mount Zion Cemetery.
