Paul Hollis Feeney, Sr., went to his heavenly home on January 26, 2013, at the age of 66, after a brave battle with cancer.
Paul was born December 27, 1946, in Jersey City, New Jersey, and grew up in Leonia, New Jersey. At the age of 19 he joined the Army and served three years, thirteen months of which was in Vietnam. There he was a Huey helicopter crew chief, responsible for the total maintenance and well-being of helicopter 811 – that was "his baby." He also served as a gunner on 811. Paul was very proud to serve his country and did not regret that his cancer was a result of Agent Orange. Paul was awarded an air medal for meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight, the Army commendation medal with letter "V" device (for valor) for an act of heroism, and the bronze star medal for meritorious achievement in ground operations against hostile forces.
Upon his Army discharge, Paul was employed by Xerox Corporation – first in NJ as a Technical Representative (servicing Xerox copiers), and then in Virginia as a Technical Instructor at the Xerox Training Center in Leesburg, VA. Paul retired after 33 years at the age of 56 and enjoyed the next ten years of his life with family (especially those grandchildren), serving others, and traveling. Mt. Hope Baptist Church in Ashburn was his home church for 33 years and he served in many capacities. He treasured his relationship with Christ and that guided his life.
Over the years, Paul served as a referee in his children's soccer games, field umpire in their Little League games, a volunteer EMT with the Arcola Rescue Squad, a volunteer with local Special Olympics, and a foster parent.
Paul was a hard working and dedicated family man. He was devoted to his wife, children, and fourteen grandchildren. Paul was a unique, remarkable person who was very much loved and will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Joan Feeney; daughter and son-in-law Lisa and James Sowers; daughter and son-in-law Dawn and Christopher Kelley; son and daughter-in-law Paul Jr. and Mary (Kate) Feeney; son and daughter-in-law Jonathan and Amanda Feeney; Grandchildren Julie, Kierstin, Thomas, Colton, Cason, Lincoln, Mackenzie, Brielle, Paul III, Jase, Jonathan Jr., Madison, Sydney and Bradley; brother John Feeney; and brother Peter Feeney.
The viewing will be held on Friday, February 1, 2013, from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 at Chantilly Bible Church, located at 4390 Pleasant Valley Road, Chantilly, VA 20151, and the funeral service will be held Saturday, February 2, at 10:00 am at the same location, with the burial following the service.
Anyone desiring to do so may give a memorial donation in Paul's name to the Mt. Hope Baptist Church Building Fund, 42507 Mt. Hope Road, Ashburn, VA 20148.
