Obituary

Peter Costas Georgallis passed away on July 6, 2012 at Loudoun Hospital in Leesburg, Virginia. Peter (Pete) was born December 7th, 1933 in New York City to Cypriot immigrants, Costas and Christina Georgallis. Pete's father moved the family to Norfolk Virginia in 1942 to open a Diner near the train station. When he wasn't working his paper route, or in his father's restaurant Pete was an altar boy in the Greek Orthodox Church. He spent his summers with the Sea Scouts. He later played football for Maury High School. He was a self taught musician and a member of the Minstrels where he played the banjo and mandolin. Pete was elected President of the Student Council his Senior Year. After graduation in 1952, Pete began the Electrical Engineering program at Virginia Tech. He was a member of the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets. He married Rebecca Hall of Newport News while still attending Virginia Tech. A year and a half later their first child, Sharon was born. Pete went to work for the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and then Bendix Corporation near Baltimore Maryland. Pete and Rebecca had a second daughter, Angela in 1961. Shortly thereafter, Pete moved his family to Campbell, California, to take a job with Lockheed Missiles and Space Corporation where he worked on the Polaris Missile Program. A career change brought the family back to the East Coast and Fairfax, Virginia in 1968. Pete co-founded Ramcor, Inc., a small defense contracting firm, in 1975 and served as its President until 1990.
Pete was selected by Virginia Tech College of Engineering to serve a life appointment on the "Committee of 100 Engineering Graduates" to further communications between the institution and the professional practice of Engineering in 1984. Always the life of the party, Pete continued to enjoy the Jitter Bug, playing his banjo and mandolin, and exploring the Chesapeake Bay on the "Georgie Girl".
Pete is survived by his daughters Angela Beth Smith of Herndon, Virginia and Sharon Georgallis Moffett of Leesburg, Virginia; granddaughters, and Adele and Brittany Smith and Alexandra and Erica Moffett and his brother John Georgallis of Grandy, NC. He is predeceased his brother George Georgallis of Raleigh, NC.
