Obituary

Colonel Peter Frederick Kalitka, USA, Retired, 84, of Paeonian Springs, Virginia, died February
14, 2014.

He was born to the late Frederick and Katherine (Kuchar) Kalitka, on August 3, 1929, in
Lawrence, Massachusetts. Pete graduated from Lawrence High School in 1947, where he
served as captain of the varsity football team. He was passionate about football, and carried on his devotion to the game through his college years where he was a football letterman at both Columbia University and the University of New Hampshire. Pete received a Bachelor of Arts in Government from UNH in 1953, where he was also a member of the Varsity Club and Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He was also awarded a Master of Arts in International Relations from the University of Southern California in 1977. He married Patricia Van Hyning in 1962, and they lived together in Reston, Virginia before relocating to Paeonian Springs in 1994.

Pete was a career US Army intelligence officer until he retired from military service in 1982
and founded Delta Four Associates, a private investigation and corporate counter-espionage
practice. He is the recipient of numerous military honors and decorations, including the
Legion of Merit, Bronze Star and Meritorious Service medals. He served in Korea, Japan,
Vietnam and West Germany.

He also worked for the Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, and served as an agent in both the
United States Secret Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Pete was a member of the National Military Intelligence Association, the Military Officers
Association of America, the American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. In his later
years, he enjoyed retirement at Edenwald Farm in Paeonian Springs, where he and wife Pat
raised angora goats, sheep and llamas.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, his son John, daughter-in-law Andrea, and
grandchildren Peter, Andrew and Anna Kalitka, of Arlington, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Fisher House
Foundation, Rockville, Maryland, or Capital Caring (Hospice) of Falls Church, Virginia. The
family also wishes to offer its special thanks to the staff at Inova Loudoun Nursing and
Rehabilitation Center and Capital Caring (Hospice) for their compassionate care and
professionalism.

A viewing will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at the
Colonial Funeral Home of Leesburg, Virginia. Burial will be held at Arlington National
Cemetery at a future date.
