Philip Dale Christy, 57, a resident of Leesburg, Virginia since 1997; beloved husband, father, sibling, and friend, died peacefully Thursday, June 24, 2010 following an acute exacerbation of a longstanding service related illness.
Phil was born in Concord, NC to Elburn Lee "Chris" Christy and Helen Lacey Christy. He attended A. L. Brown High School in Kannapolis, NC where he grew up. In 1970 he joined the US Army and served in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Jan; three daughters, Jessica Moseman of Harpers Ferry, WV, Megan Nichols of Leesburg, and Tracy Nichols of the home; and two sons, Dale Lee Christy of China Grove, NC, and Casey Christy of Kannapolis, NC. He will also be greatly mourned by his sisters, Bonnie McCune of Sneads Ferry, NC, Robin Morris of Bristow, VA, and brother, Greg Christy of Greenville, SC, as well as four grandchildren.
He enjoyed the recent years spending time with his family and pets, and when his health permitted, coin collecting and antiquing.
Those who knew him will remember him as a lovable, smiling, gentle man, always ready with a joke and a helping hand. He will be sorely missed by friends, family, and his many acquaintances.
The family will be receiving friends and family at the Colonial Funeral Home at 201 Edwards Ferry Road, Leesburg, VA 20176 on Tuesday, June 29 from 12 – 1pm. Funeral Services will begin at 1:00p.m. Mr. Christy will be laid to rest at Union Cemetery, Leesburg, VA. immediately following service.
