Raymond Everett
Trader
Dec 2, 1966 — Jun 11, 2026
Raymond Everett Trader, 59, of Leesburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully on June 11, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on December 2, 1966, in Washington, D.C., Ray lived a life defined by his devotion to his family, his work, and the many friendships he cultivated over the years.
Ray is survived by his beloved sons, Nicholas Trader and Christian Trader; his sisters, Donna Trader and Dawn Birch; his brother, Jeffrey Trader; his brother-in-law, Jon Hillis; his daughter-in-law, Lauren Trader; his cherished granddaughter, Elyse; his uncle, George Dant; his special friend, Robin; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathleen L. Dant, and his father, James R. Trader.
For more than 35 years, Ray was a respected master hairstylist, serving clients at the salons he owned in Alexandria, Winchester, and Middleburg. He was also a talented carpenter who took great pride in remodeling his own home and occasionally working alongside a close family friend. An avid golfer, Ray looked forward to building his dream home on the property he had purchased at Winchester Country Club.
Ray will be remembered for his intelligence, quick wit, infectious smile, and genuine kindness. He had a remarkable gift for conversation and an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel welcome. Whether sharing stories, offering advice, or simply enjoying the company of others, he left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Above all else, Ray’s greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was being a father. He loved Nicholas and Christian beyond measure and celebrated their college graduations and the men they had become with immense pride. His unconditional love for his sons became the foundation that brought their family together. Through that love, the mothers of his sons remained close to Ray, and together with his family, they stood faithfully by his side throughout his illness and in his final moments. Because of Ray’s love for his boys, we became one family—supporting one another through every challenge with compassion, grace, and unwavering devotion. That unity and love are among the greatest gifts he leaves behind.
Throughout Ray’s final year, he was also blessed by the unwavering love, devoted support, and compassionate care of his sister, Donna Trader, and his brother-in-law, Jon Hillis, whose constant presence brought him comfort, strength, and dignity throughout his journey.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the coming months in Leesburg, Virginia.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who visited, called, prayed, and sent messages of love and encouragement throughout Ray’s illness. They also offer their sincere appreciation to the offices of Dr. Naini and Dr. Kowalski for their compassionate care and guidance during a difficult journey.
