Obituary

Rebecca Lynn (Eggen) Smith passed away at home on Saturday, May 16.

Becky was born in Manhattan, Kansas, on August 4, 1949, to the late Richard and Dorothy (Kuhn) Eggen. She grew up in Kansas and Colorado. She graduated from Lakewood High School in Lakewood, CO and earned an associates degree in Fashion from Arapahoe Junior College. In her professional life, she worked for a short time in retail at the Watergate, and spent the majority of her career as a receptionist for the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

Becky’s faith was tremendously important to her. She was a longtime parishioner at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Sterling VA, and was pursuing lay ministry certifications as her health allowed in her later years. She was devout in her Christian beliefs, which brought her tremendous peace and comfort, even in challenging times.

She is survived by her husband of almost 53 years, Randolph “RL” Smith, of Sterling, VA; her son, Derek Smith, his wife, Meghan, and grandsons, Maximus and Rockford, of Attleboro, MA; sisters, Jennifer Reiva of Papillion, NE, Libby Saleh (Mike) of San Diego, CA, and Priscilla Bayyouk (Jacob) of Richardson, TX; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews around the country. She adored her family and treasured any opportunity to spend time with them or hear from them about their lives.

Becky was generous, kind, sweet, and filled with joy whenever she connected with others. She was a wonderful person who loved people and especially her family. She was loved by everyone she met and made the world a happier place.

She will be truly missed by all.

A memorial service will be held at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church (201 E Frederick Dr, Sterling VA 20164) at 11am on Saturday, June 6. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in her name to the St. Matthew's Episcopal Church Care Response Team.
