Richard Maurer passed away July 25th, 2011 peacefully, in his sleep, in his home in Ashburn, Virginia.

He was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1949 to Virginia and James Maurer. When he was still an infant, they moved to Detroit Michigan and had two more children, his brother Carl and his sister Gloria. He also had a brother James (Jimmy) Maurer from his father's first marriage.

Richard attended Wayne State University where he received a degree in Pharmacy, and he later attended the University of Phoenix, earning his Masters in Business Administration. He moved to Virginia in 2007 and became the Director of Information Technology for DRS Technologies and was subsequently promoted to Chief Information Officer of DRS Defense Solutions.

He was preceded in death by his father James, his sister Gloria, his brother Carl, and his brother Jimmy. Richard leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Julia, his mother Virginia (and Carl) Jacobson, his daughter Andrea Maurer and her husband Don Jarrett, his son, Joseph (Joe) Maurer, and their mother Sandra Maurer.

There will be a life celebration service at the Maurer home in Ashburn Friday, July 29th at 6:00 pm. Family and friends are asked to bring any pictures of Rick and memorable stories of him to share as we commemorate his legacy.
