Richard Edward Orwig III, aged 54, of Leesburg, VA, passed away unexpectedly on October 16, 2024. He is survived by his devoted wife of 29 years, Tracey, and their three beloved daughters: Riley (27), Reese (24), and Ryan (16). He is also survived by his parents Richard Edward II and Marjorie who cherished him, Maria and Robert Milligan who revered him as their favored son-in-law, brothers Robert and Ronald whom he loved dearly, and 8 nephews and nieces whom he held a special place for in his heart.
Rick was born on August 9, 1970, in New Jersey where he developed his love of nature in the forests and by the creeks. Rick graduated from Elon University with a degree in psychology, exemplary of his devotion to deeply understanding people. He spent a decade in North Carolina, where he embraced the southern charm and culture, creating lasting memories with loved ones that he treasured throughout his life.
Rick devoted 20 years of his career to Davey Tree Expert Co, where he served as a trusted leader and District Manager. His commitment to excellence and his ability to inspire those around him were hallmarks of his career, as he expanded operations in Northern Virginia with integrity and passion.
Beyond his professional achievements, Rick was a man of remarkable character. He had an infectious energy that brought joy to every interaction. His unwavering positivity, sense of humor, and selflessness made him a role model and a true friend to many. Rick had a rare gift for illuminating the lives of everyone he encountered. His gregarious spirit and boundless sense of humor could transform any gathering into a celebration of joy. His advice and words of wisdom were always valuable, realistic, and sincere. Ricks' ability to connect with others created a tapestry of extraordinary memories, leaving an unforgettable mark of warmth and joy in our lives.
Among his many passions, Rick cherished long walks among the trees with his girls, cooking delicious meals for family gatherings, and spending time by the water. He loved to celebrate life's special moments, whether it was cheering the loudest at his daughters' cheerleading competitions and volleyball tournaments or enjoying quiet weekends at home with Tracey. His love for music and talk shows often filled car rides, with 94.7 usually playing and Rick singing along, sharing his infectious enthusiasm.
Rick's legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. The way he carried himself through life exemplified the true power of love, laughter, and kindness. Every move he made was prompted by his heart of gold. In honor of Rick, let us carry forward his spirit by spreading smiles and positivity, knowing that this is what he would have wanted for all of us. "Don't worry, be happy."
Rick is preceded in death by his grandparents, Richard Edward Orwig I and Gean Louise Fisher Orwig, Lewis Allen Suverison and Jean Lawrence Suverison.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 26, at 11 AM. All are welcome to join in celebrating a beautiful life that touched so many.
