Obituary

Robert Gene Felts

10/9/71 - 2/10/2021

Robert Gene Felts, 49, of Leesburg, VA went home to be with the Lord suddenly on Wednesday, February 10th, 2021.  He is survived by his loving wife, Amanda, and step-children, Amelia and Zachary of Leesburg, VA, his mother, Linda (Charles) Phelps of Calhoun, GA, his father, Roy Jr. (Katherine) Felts, of Jacksonville, FL, his brother, Roy Felts, III of Athens, GA, his sister, Angela (Richard) Hardin of Seymour, TN, his best friend, Rapahel (Susan) Herz and their sons of Natick, MA, and Robert's beloved horses and pets.  Robert was loved by many wonderful friends and his extended Charleston, SC and New York City area families.  He devoted his life to making others happy, and always relentlessly gave of himself to make others' lives better.

As a child, Robert loved caring for his grandparents' farm and playing Little League baseball in Fort Oglethorpe, GA.  He graduated from Baylor School in Chattanooga, TN, where his love for the outdoors flourished through his active involvement in the school's unique Walkabout program.  An avid outdoorsman, Robert learned to paddle through the chasms of the Ocoee River, has climbed distant peaks in Patagonia, Russia, Peru and Nepal, explored endless miles of underground cave systems, hiked the Appalachian Trail, fished countless rivers, lakes and oceans, camped and explored wondrous lands all around the world.  Robert's respect and passion for the natural world knew no bounds.

Using his degree in Culinary Arts from Johnson & Wales in Charleston SC, Robert helped to develop several notable South Carolina establishments including Motor Supply Company in Columbia, SC before following his dreams to become a respected private chef and entrepreneur for many fortunate families, in many special ways.  A true disciple of Christ, Robert lived His teaching with compassion through sharing his gracious culinary talents with others.  He was known to all for his ability – in true "fishes and loaves" fashion –  to reach deep into seemingly empty cupboards or gather from the garden to conjure a feast of magnificent bounty and flavor.  Robert's love of nature, his creative culinary skill sets and incredible sense of hospitality created such a unique and fulfilling experience for anyone who enjoyed his meals - Robert's guests simply felt at home.  Robert's creativity and graciousness nourished both body and spirit, and inspired countless others to savor each moment together in feast and celebration.

Robert loved fishing, hunting, hiking, camping, climbing, kayaking, rafting, and serving others, but his favorite adventure was always sharing his special talents with his beloved family.  Robert's legacy lives on in the full lives of his wife and step children, and countless others who have been touched by his kind spirit.  A memorial service will be delayed until people can safely assemble.  Donations are being collected by Greenland Farm in lieu of flowers to establish a scholarship fund in Robert's name for a Baylor School Walkabout student, and may be sent to https://www.paypal.com/donate?hosted_button_id=J8A4SJVUW27SS .

The family can be reached through The Reverend Jon Strand, Rector of the Church of the Holy Comforter in Vienna, VA.
