Obituary

Robert M. (Bob) Forkish, 83, of Potomac Green in Ashburn Virginia, passed peacefully on the morning of June 30th, 2010, surrounded by family at Loudoun Nursing and Rehab.
His Patriotism led him to join the military at 17, where he served our country on and off for over 20 years. He served in WWII, did two tours in Korea, along with two tours in Vietnam. A humble man, Bob never mentioned his numerous commendations which included an Army Air Medal for landing in hostile territory 25 times (Vietnam) and an Army Commendation medal for meritorious service to even his closest friends or family. During his Army service, he received two (2) Bronze Stars for Meritorious Service Achievement against hostile forces in Vietnam. He retired from military service having achieved the Army rank of Sergeant 1st Class. His service included responsibility for training other service personnel in Radio Communications. In the new millennium, he would be a part of the highly visible Signal Command.
Of all his accomplishments and awards though, he was most proud of his family; his wife of 50 years, Sophia, his two daughters Ruth Guerra (Rob Guerra), Annie Antezana (Jaime Antezana), along with his grand children. Scott Slaydon, Sophia Slaydon, Jacob Antezana, Jenna Antezana, Roman Guerra, Kathryn Guerra, and Zachary Guerra. Others survivors include his brother John Forkish (Frances Forkish) and sister Mary Heslop.
His happiest days were spent playing cards with friends, and entertaining everyone with his jokes at the Potomac Green Club House, where he was known for his great sense of humor.
The last four months were spent at Loudoun Nursing and Rehab. The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the nurses and staff that grew to love him; went above and beyond their professional duties and became a part of our family.
Services with Honors with will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, on August 3, 2010, at 11am.
In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to INOVA Loudoun Nursing and Rehab, 235 Old Waterford Rd. Leesburg, Virginia 20176.
He will be missed by us all, but his spirit will be with us forever.
