Robert Walter Mathews passed away surrounded by his family on the night of May 13, 2019. Bobby was born on February 27, 1960, in Albuquerque, NM to Maurice and Lee (Mallow) Mathews.
Bobby moved to Virginia in 1999 when he was reunited with his daughter and the love of his life, Laura. He enjoyed spending time with his family doing various activities such as fishing, bowling, cooking/grilling, and reminiscing about the good ol' days. Bobby also enjoyed spending as much time as he could with his 3 granddaughters. Growing up and living in the Southwest, Bobby was a fan of the Colorado Rockies and the Denver Broncos. When Bobby moved to Louisiana, he became a fan of LSU. On any given Sunday during racing season, Bobby could be found watching NASCAR and rooting for Kevin Harvick who took the place of his all time favorite driver Dale Earnhardt.
Bobby was preceded in death by his father and sister Terri (Mathews) Plewes; his brother-in-law and best friend, Gregg Workman; his mother-in-law, Donna Workman; and father-in-law, Thomas Workman. He is survived by his soul mate, Laura Mathews of Sterling, VA; daughter Amber and husband William Adams of Winchester, VA; three granddaughters Patricia, Mary, and Kathryn of Winchester, VA; and mother Lee Mathews of Salida, CO. He is also survived by three sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family would like to celebrate Bobby's life with friends and family on Thursday, May 23, 2019, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Colonial Funeral Home of Leesburg, 201 Edwards Ferry Rd, NE, Leesburg, VA 20176. There will not be a service following the visitation.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
