IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert B.
Mckay
February 1, 1929 – July 16, 2018
Robert Brook McKay passed comfortably the night of July 15th at his home in Aldie, VA. His wife, Winifred Mary (nee Hallwood), passed peacefully on November 15th, 2017. Both will lay in rest together overlooking a beautiful pond at the Emmanuel Middleburg Memorial Cemetery in Middleburg, VA. They were born in England in 1929, Winnie on January 2nd in Kent and Bob on February 1st in Blackpool. They grew up in the lovely seaside resort town of Blackpool, England, in the midst of WWII. During their teenage years Bob trained and became a Journeyman plumber while Winnie made candy at a local factory and danced onstage in shows on the Blackpool Promenade. Winnie and Bob shared a long life together having married in the Summer of 1950. In 1953, after the birth of their son Stuart Phillip and daughter Janine Susan, Bob braved the Atlantic by passenger ship to carve out a new life in Virginia for his new family. After Winnie joined him in America, they went on to have three more children, Judith Annette (Joseph Gillis), Roberta Lynn (Grant Featherstone), and Scott Brook (Corinne nee Roscelli). Bob began in America by building pools and eventually moving on to own the pool company. Later, he built and owned a Holiday Inn in Fairfax as well as keeping racehorses in nearby Middleburg. Winnie and Bob led a full life, wintering in Siesta Key, gambling in Atlantic City, betting on horses in Charlestown, and drinking tea. They both had fabulous dry British sarcasm and wit which they have passed on to their children and grandchildren. Winnie was an expert knitter who enjoyed playing bingo, watching British Shows, and switching tags at the thrift stores. Bob was a man of many talents and could fix and build anything; he was also an avid reader who enjoyed fishing, and building things without permits. Winnie was preceded in death by her sister Joyce and brother Kenny and is survived by her sister and brothers Tony, Terry, Billy, and June. Bob was preceded in death by his sisters Kitty and Audrey, and his brother Roy, and is survived by his brother Gordon. Winnie and Bob have 8 loving grandchildren, Brook and Dale Lincoln, Ashley McKay, Rachael and Hannah Gillis, Sarah and Regan McKay, and Hailey Featherstone as well as 3 great-grandchildren, Kiley, Luke, and Travis.
