Robert William Miller, Jr., born on September 29, 1950, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2026. He was a man whose life was marked by dedicated service, unwavering commitment, and a genuine kindness that touched the lives of many in his community.
Robert served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1971 to 1975, demonstrating a steadfast sense of duty and patriotism during his military career. Following his service, he devoted himself to his profession as a mechanic for Loudoun County Public Schools, where he worked diligently from 1992 until his retirement in 2017. His expertise and trusted presence were integral to the smooth operation of the school system’s transportation services for a quarter of a century.
Beyond his professional achievements, Robert was deeply valued in the Loudoun County community, particularly through his longstanding contributions to the Loudoun County Fair. In 2015, the fair proudly honored Robert by dedicating the event to him—a testament to his unselfish support, encouragement, and dedication. For many years, those attending the fair may have recognized him as the quiet figure wearing a straw hat, driving the tractor, or pulling the tram, always arriving early to assist others and staying late to ensure everyone’s comfort and safety. His warm personality, readiness to share a joke or a story, and his attentive care for children and senior citizens alike left an indelible impression on fairgoers and volunteers.
Robert’s commitment extended beyond the fairgrounds; after completing his daily work, he would help neighbors with lawn care, offering his time and effort generously without expectation of anything beyond a simple thank you. His big heart and willingness to assist wherever needed made him a beloved figure in the community.
Robert is survived by Jason (Jake) and Katrina Pratt. He was also cherished by the Pratt Family of Lucketts, Virginia; his brother, Mitch and wife, MaryJo of Berryville, Virginia; his brother, David and wife, Tammy of Lovettsville, Virginia; his sister, Mary Jane and husband, Jeff of Washington State; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
As family, friends, and all who knew Robert reflect on his life, they honor a man who made a lasting difference through his humility, dedication, and kindness. The Loudoun County Fair’s dedication to him in 2015 captures only a glimpse of his enduring impact on the community and the lives of countless individuals. Robert William Miller, Jr. will be remembered with deep respect and affection for his quiet strength and the generous spirit with which he lived.
