IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rodney
Metschke
October 13, 1963 – December 5, 2009
Rodney was one of two sons born in Fremont, Nebraska on October 13, 1963 to very proud parents Whymergene Ralph and Floy Marlene (Samson) Metschke. In his younger days Rod, known as 'Hot Rod' was quite the daredevil. Oftentimes he kept his mom on her toes with his driving techniques. He was never afraid of trying new adventures. But no matter what he did, Rod loved his mom and always strived to gain her pride. He attended schools in Fremont, Nebraska; graduating from Fremont High School in 1981. After graduation, Rod entered into the United States Air Force. While serving, he spent time in Germany, later coming back to the states, finishing his term in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Many talents were revealed as he proved to be a jack of all trades. But unlike most, he was a master of all. An avid cook, Rod won many trophies in championship barbeque cook offs. Family and friends were fortunate to be invited to savor his barbeque. He found talent in woodworking as a maker of fine furniture and a builder of beautiful homes. He was known to be a good mechanic. A true lover of nature, he enjoyed hunting in the mountains or swimming and fishing in the sea. He enjoyed listening to the music of Jimmy Buffett and taking in the concerts. Rod was a fan of TV westerns and loved watching movies.
Always found with a smile on his face, Rod had a funny personality. People were naturally drawn to him. With this came many lasting friendships. Rod was a man who lived by the 'Golden Rule". His family and friends found loyalty in his honest and trustworthy ways. He was a kind and thoughtful man. Many times needs of others would be met without his having been asked.
The world was blessed by his presence. All who knew him will feel the void of his absence. But his spirit will continue to live on in those he leaves behind: his fiancé Lynn Mathews; mother Floy Nansen; step-father Glen Nansen; brother Bryan Metschke, wife Francie and children Alex and Andrew; special friends Brooke and Nick Mathews; his loyal dog/companion Jack; aunts, uncles and cousins and a host of other friends.
In his honor, family and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on December 10, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Rd NE, Leesburg, VA 20176. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humain Society of Loudoun County, P.O. Box 601, Leesburg, Virginia 20178.
