Ronald Scholz graduated from the University of Missouri and was commissioned into the U.S. Navy in 1962. Following his designation as a Naval Aviator, he initially served as a flight instructor before flying P-3 aircraft with VP-47, which included deployment to Vietnam from 1969 to 1970.
The Navy subsequently sponsored his legal education, and he became a Judge Advocate General (JAG) officer in 1974. Throughout his JAG career, Mr. Scholz served as defense counsel, prosecutor, and military judge in criminal trials. His staff assignments included Special Counsel to the Navy Inspector General, Standards of Conduct and Ethics Counsel to the Judge Advocate General, and Executive Assistant to the Deputy Commander and Chief of the Atlantic Fleet.
After completing a year at the National War College, he was appointed Director of the Navy’s Civil Litigation Division. He retired at the rank of Captain following his final active-duty assignment as Commanding Officer of the Navy Legal Service Office in Charleston, South Carolina.
In his civilian career, Mr. Scholz founded the Veterans’ Consortium Pro Bono Program and directed its litigation division. He later joined the Paralyzed Veterans of America as National Service Director, overseeing 87 offices nationwide.
