Obituary

Ronald L Sherman

L'Chaim

It is with sadness we share that Ronald L. Sherman, 88, passed away August 15th. Ron spent his final hours at home surrounded by family members.

Ron was born and raised in Portland, OR. He graduated from the University of Oregon in 1954, met and married his beautiful wife Sharon that same year. A graduate from the ROTC program at the university, Ron started his career as an Air Force officer. He, Sharon, and their growing family lived in many places throughout the U.S., and a final post in Germany.

Ron had a long career in aviation and public relations. He was a decorated officer, serving in the Office of Information for 23 years, including in an active war zone during the conflict in Vietnam. After "retiring," Ron went on to have several additional careers, first as a writer and public information consultant in the aviation industry, and later as an active director and administrator for the American Cancer Society. During his varied careers, he traveled the world and made many friends at home and abroad.

After Sharon passed away in 2008, Ron had the blessing of a second love, his partner Donna Courtney. Beginning in 2010, he joined Mosaic Harmony, a community choir of which Donna was a member. He worked to help organize its relations with the Fairfax Arts Council, managed grants programs, and served on the board of directors. Ron, a bass, loved singing and took great joy from being part of the choir.

Ron and Donna were able to travel the globe in later years. He once was gifted with a tee-shirt with the saying, "I Know Everything" on one side, and "I've Been Everywhere" on the other.

Ron was also a loyal fan of the Washington Nationals. He and various friends and family members spent many happy hours at the ballpark.

Ron is predeceased by his wife Sharon, and his loving partner Donna Courtney.

He is survived by his brother Alan Sherman; his son Michael, wife Sue; daughter Cathrine Hancher, husband John; son Steven, wife Cindy; seven grandchildren, ten greatgrandchildren; and many friends who will miss him greatly.

Due to COVID concerns but wishing to celebrate Ron's life, a Memorial Service and Celebration of Life is being planned near the one-year anniversary, in August of 2022. Please contact Katt4Dad2022@gmail.com for information on the planned events.
