Rose Marie A. Sasso, 87, of Ashburn, Virginia, died at home on Friday, January 20, 2023.

Rose Marie was born in Pittsburgh, Pa, to Charles and Josephine Mascellino.  After graduating from high school, she worked at the former US Air Force Base - Pittsburgh Airport and in 1956, moved to Washington, DC where she began working at the National Academy of Sciences.  Not long after moving to DC she met her husband, Anthony (Tony) Sasso, a student at Georgetown Law. Their courtship often consisted of bike rides around the city, attending concerts on the Mall, and spending time at the many museums.

The couple married and started their family, making their home first in Lorton, Va, and later in Dumfries, Va.  Rose Marie enjoyed playing bridge, cooking, crafting, reading, doing puzzles and sewing. She was a familiar face in her children's classrooms and spent many years catering at Gunston Hall.

After Anthony's passing, Rose Marie relocated to Ashburn, Va, to be closer to her children.  She was active in the parish community at St. Theresa Catholic Church and enjoyed spending time with family, especially with her six grandchildren who lovingly referred to her as "Honey".

She was predeceased in death by her loving husband, Anthony A. Sasso; sister, Joanna Rizzo; brothers, Blaise Mascellino and Ross Mascellino; and angel grandson, Francis.

She is survived by daughter, Datina Kuhn (Rich), son, Christopher A. Sasso (Kathlyn), son, Gregory Sasso; her grandchildren, Andrew, Jaclyn, Amanda, Anthony, Aaron, and Isabelle; and siblings, Annette Chebatoris (Rich), Chuck "Pudge" Mascellino (Linda), Michele Boyle (Mike), Debbie Mianzo (Bob), and Cheri Mascellino; Sister-in-laws, Darlene Mascellino, and Mary Malushizky (late Paul).

Family will receive friends on Thursday, January 26, 2023 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Colonial Funeral Home of Leesburg, 201 Edwards Ferry Rd., NE., Leesburg, VA 20176.  A funeral Mass will be held at St. Theresa's Catholic Church at 21370 St. Theresa Lane, Ashburn, VA 20147 on Friday, January 27, 2023 at 10:30 am.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Foundation in memory of Rose Marie A. Sasso.
