Roy Monroe Flippo, Jr. died of natural causes on Saturday, June 20, 2009 in his home in Tucson, Arizona. A native of Leesburg, Virginia, Roy had recently moved to Tucson to spend his retirement.
Roy was born on March 15, 1939 in Leesburg, Virginia, and attended the Greenbrier Military School in Lewisburg, West Virginia. He enlisted in the Army in 1958 and after serving in Germany, returned to Leesburg. There he entered into his family's business, eventually becoming co-owner and operator of the Laurel Brigade Inn restaurant and inn, which was a pillar of the Leesburg community for 50 years. Roy also opened and operated restaurants in Curwensville, Pennsylvania and Purcellville, Virginia. In his retirement, Roy was serving on the board of the Gardeners of Tucson Club and was a dedicated supporter of the Tucson Community Food Bank and the American Red Cross.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents Roy and Charlsie Flippo. He is survived by his 6 children David Flippo of Burke, VA, John Flippo of Topeka, KS, Anne Eidson of Greenville, TN, Jennifer Heilen of Tucson, AZ, Maggie Birmingham of Leesburg, VA, and Rebecca Carpenter of Oakland, CA, his two sisters, Ellen Wall and Martha Vanderhoof, his eleven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 26 at 1:00 pm at the Colonial Funeral Home 201 Edwards Ferry Rd. NE, Leesburg Virginia 20176.
