Ruth Morene
Epperson
November 29, 1927 – July 12, 2025
Ruth Morene (Amburgey) Epperson was born on November 29, 1927 in McRoberts, Kentucky. She was a true coal miner's daughter and very proud of her Appalachian heritage. Born to Arminta Combs and Woodrow Amburgey of Hindman, KY, she was one of eleven children.
Ruth and her husband moved to the Washington, DC area and began a family. She took a job as a secretary for US Congressman, Carl D. Perkins, where she worked for many years. The family lived all over the greater Washington area, finally settling in Leesburg, VA and purchasing historic Selma in 1972. Ruth married Benjamin Epperson of Flat Lick, KY in 1950.
Ruth was a creative and innovative person, holding one of the first and largest wedding/event venues in the local area. Over the nearly 20 years in business, she married hundreds of brides and held numerous corporate events at their beautiful home.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Benjamin in 2003. She is also predeceased by her daughter, Enid Isobel (Epperson) Thompson, who passed in 2020.
She is survived by only one of her siblings, Peggy Pratt of London, KY. She has two surviving daughters, Nancy Angelos and Benji Ellen Collins (Robert Sanders); four grandchildren, Emily Arminta Parcell (Cameron), Benjamin Cody Collins (Blair Thomas), Alexa Helene Angelos-Belden (Tanner), and Virginia Lynn Emmer (Matthew); as well as nine loving and adorable great-grandchildren.
