Ruth Welty (nee Weaver), 93, passed away September 30, 2019, at Inova Loudoun Nursing and Rehab Center in Leesburg, Virginia.  She had been a resident of Virginia since 2002, when she and her beloved husband, the late Maurice Welty, moved to Lovettsville to live with her daughter Diana and son-in-law Mike.  Prior to that, she had been a long-time resident of Garfield Heights, Ohio,

She was born in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of the late George Weaver and Dorothy Schoebeck.  She was preceded in death by her husband Maurice Edward Welty, brothers Jack Scharsu and Bernard Scharsu, and sister Edith (Scharsu) Fedie.  She is survived by two daughters, Diana Welty Zapf of Lovettsville and Heather Rose Welty of New York City; two grandsons, Michael Christian Zapf of Royal Oak, Michigan, and Andrew Paul Zapf of Hartford, England; and great-grandson Leopold Zapf.

She was an avid photographer of family events and travels.  She especially enjoyed time with her two grandsons as they grew up.  In her last few years, the light of her life was her great-grandson Leo.
