IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Salome S.
Tantoco
January 14, 1936 – August 20, 2024
On August 20, 2024, Salome Suntay Tantoco ("Sally"), passed away peacefully at the age of 88 surrounded by her family at her home in Leesburg, Virginia. She passed away on the 41st death anniversary of her son, Wilfredo.
Sally is survived by her children Ricardo, Eduardo, Veronica, Theresa, Victoria, Ricio Jr., 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Ricio, and son.
Sally was born on January 14, 1936 in Malolos, Bulacan in the Philippines. She was named after her grandmother, Salome Uitangcoy Suntay. Sally's great-grandmother, Alberta Santos Uitangcoy, was one of the 20 young women known as The Women of Malolos. These 20 women bravely participated in a peaceful movement for educational reforms in 1888 during the Spanish colonial period.
At the age of 15, Sally was introduced by her mother to the love of her life. While balancing their successful careers, Ricio and Sally raised 7 children. Prior to moving their family to the United States in 1972, they worked for Ricio's brother, Bienvenido Rufino Tantoco, co-founder of the luxury retail store Rustan's. Bienvenido was also a former Philippine ambassador to the Vatican. In 1995, Sally proudly retired from her nearly 20 year international civil servant career with The World Bank Group headquartered in Washington D.C.
Sally will be fondly remembered by her family for her infectious laugh, deep devotion to the Blessed Mother, daily prayers, and her eternal optimism. She was the life of the party at family gatherings, telling Filipino jokes and laughing before getting to the punch line; singing along to music by her favorite crooners Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett; and showing off on the dance floor with her husband.
Viewing will be held on Monday, August 26 from 6pm until 8pm at Colonial Funeral Home in Leesburg, VA. Funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, August 27 at 11am at St. Leo the Great in Fairfax, VA. Following the mass, Sally will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband and son at Fairfax Memorial Park.
