IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sean Leroy
Shelton
May 29, 1966 – October 10, 2022
Sean Leroy Shelton, 56, of Purcellville, Virginia, passed away on October 10, 2022. The conclusion of his final chapter returns his deeply creative and giving spirit to that of his soulmate, his wife Diane Waters Shelton, who preceded him in death in 2020.
Sean was born May 29, 1966, in Fredericksburg, VA to Sharon Cook and Wilbert Leroy Shelton. He attended Courtland High School in Virginia and later in life proceeded to the U.S. Army, serving as a Combat Engineer based out of U.S. Army Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. During his time in Missouri, he showed flashes of his future, giving self by becoming a member of the 15th Judicial Circuit Court Appointed Special Advocates to help children in need. He also took up thrilling activities such as rock climbing, a sport that spoke to his focused mind and sense of personal challenge. Following his military career, he pursued a degree in computer science at Franklin Pierce University which led to successful years as CEO of his own technology support company.
Early retirement from military and corporate duties coincided with his union to his beloved wife Diane, with whom he created a loving home and a creative space where they both explored and indulged their love of art, painting, writing, photography, woodworking, and sculpture. In this environment, Sean dedicated his last two decades to creation, expression, and love of life - from writing action thriller novels to rearing of chickens to 3D-printing objects of desire and necessity for friends and family - anything vibrant and full of positive energy were things that he nurtured.
In his last decade, Sean was able to focus his lifetime of experience into a series of successful independent fiction novels, including his bestselling Scott Wolfe action thriller series and several standalone fiction projects. He spent countless online hours engaged with other fellow writers, both professional and amateur, to bring a military caliber brotherhood and system of support to the dreams of hundreds of people, sharing the magic of story and helping authors through the stress and struggle of creation. His online support extended beyond the realm of fiction, and he was well known to live and breathe the military spirit of standing up for the downtrodden and abused - Sean would be first to call out online hypocrisy, to speak up in support of someone in need, to stand up for the positive values that he thought would make the world a better place to live. After the loss of Diane, he attended widow/widower support groups and inspired so many with his heartfelt writings to help others process their loss and grief.
Sean's spirit of creation and deep devotion lives on in the stories of his and his beloved children Mike (Alex), Megan, Lauren, his mother and stepfather, and his brothers and sister. We pray that in time his loss will be filled with the warmth of memories and the boundless creative spirit he brought to this world.
Sean leaves us with these final thoughts written just weeks prior to his passing:
"Physics already tells us all time and space exist simultaneously and only the fact we are trapped in three-dimensional existence gives us the experience of linear time. Extrapolated, if all time and space exist simultaneously then we were always here and always will be here."
Thus, Sean's spirit remains, supporting all who live, love, create, support, and dream.
