Shannon A. Quinn, a loving wife, mother, sister, daughter, and friend passed on Friday the 8th of April 2022 at her home in Leesburg, Virginia. Shannon was in the care of her close family and transitioned to heaven after a long and tough battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
Born August 19th, 1968 in Arlington, Virginia, Shannon was the only daughter of Stephanie and Thomas Quinn. She was raised in Germantown, Maryland alongside her brother Stephen Quinn. Shannon excelled at everything she put effort into, graduating high school at the same time she completed her associates degree at her local community college. She went on to graduate with her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland, as well as graduating with a Master of Science degree from the John Hopkins University Carey Business School. Shannon married Mark Duckett in November of 1997 and they were in their 25th year of marriage. They shared two children together, daughter Morgan Duckett and son Nolan Duckett. Shannon also cared for her two stepsons as if they were her own, Sean Duckett and Jason Duckett. Shannon worked at the Central Intelligence Agency for 30 years, retiring in 2019 after being diagnosed with ALS.
Shannon loved all things art and science. She Irish danced as a child and always had a talent for drawing, and also took courses at Harvard University. Her hobby was climbing lighthouses, although she was terrified of heights, and she loved the beach, ocean, turtles, and her beloved Westie puppy Macey. She loved supporting her children's activities and always put others first. Shannon was known for her warm soul and selflessness, she was the type of person that leaves a mark on you forever.
Shannon was preceded in death by her mother Stephanie Quinn and her father Thomas Quinn. She is survived by her beloved husband Mark, daughter Morgan, son Nolan, stepsons Sean and Jason, and brother Stephen; treasured by her aunt and uncle Cheryl & Doug Blythe, uncle Tom and aunt Mary Anne King, cherished by her in-laws Rose and Frank Duckett, and loved by all her cousins, brother in law, and sisters in law who live in Virginia, Maryland, and North Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, our family deeply appreciates donations to Augie's Quest for ALS Research, a nonprofit foundation that is persistent in the pursuit of treatment to halt, reverse, and cure this lethal disease. If you wish to donate, use the link below:
