Obituary

Shariat Quraishi-Lariche (Known as Shari or Mama Shari by all who knew and loved her)

Shari was born on August 25 th , 1934 in Abadan (Oil City), Iran. She was one of 6 children born to Morteza and Beygom and from an early age she quickly was looked upon as the sister that was called upon to take care of her other 3 sisters. She was the third oldest yet was tasked by her mother to watch over her other sisters as she demonstrated a level of maturity beyond her years. She was seven years old when she started going to the market almost daily to purchase groceries for the household, she did this while carrying and caring for her younger sister during most of these trips. She was also known for being a bit of a tomboy and for also standing up for many of the children whom were members of the ethnic and religious minorities in and around her neighborhood. This philosophy of acceptance, selflessness, and caring only strengthened as she progressed in life.

Shari was married to Amir, whom she met through her bother, for nearly thirty five years until his passing in 1994. After her marriage she traveled and resided in various Persian Gulf States, Spain, Great Britain, Turkey, Greece, and India. She had a natural gift of personally connecting to people and making friends no matter what language was spoken or which country she found herself in. She was fluent in English, Farsi, Arabic, and Turkish. She is survived by her three daughters: Jilah, Jaleh, Nadia, her son Nader, six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. As a mother, Shari was always ready to play any role needed in order to nurture and help her children all throughout her life. She was mostly a single mother as her husband was travelling for long stretches and months on end. Despite this challenge, Shari always made sure that her kids were never left wanting the love and presence of a parent. She has watched over 3 generations of her family helping to raise and support them throughout her entire life.

From an early age, Shari demonstrated a great capacity for charity and would think of various ways to help others who were having difficulties in life. She would often cook large amounts of food and fed the hungry in the various places she lived or would help mostly women or families that she would hear about through her social networks.

Shari was a loving mother and a wonderful grandmother who is loved and will be remembered with great pride and fondness. There is no better gift a child can hope for in life other than the love and care a good mother provides. She was the backbone of her family and her life's work will live on through all the lives she touched so gracefully.

We love you and miss you very much dear Mama Shari
