Shirley A. Edmonds passed away peacefully on June 11, 2016, in her home in Lakeland, Florida. She was surrounded by her husband Joseph, caregiver Rosie Edmond and stepdaughter Joanna Craig.
Shirley was born in Brunswick, Maryland to parents Irvin and Violet Cooper. She graduated from Brunswick High School in 1956. Shirley lived in Falls Church Virginia with her first husband James E. Mullen who proceeded her in death. She worked for the Department of the Navy until her children were born. Shirley attended McLean Bible Church and was very involved with Vacation Bible School and Summit Lake camp.
She was married to her second husband Joseph S. Edmonds for 34 years, they lived in Friendly Maryland, Arlington Virginia and Ashburn Virginia. Shirley also worked for US Airways until she retired. Shirley and Joseph recently relocated to Lakeland, Florida.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Joseph, her son, Kenneth Mullen, daughter, Gail Cason, stepdaughters, Jane Montgomery, Rebecca Specht and Joanna Craig. Shirley was also the proud grandmother of: Jimmy Mullen, Tommy Mullen, Danny Mullen, Rachel Cason, Connor Cason, Christina Arnberg, Chelsea Jardina, Erica Brissette, Cindy Craig, Kimberly Craig and Christopher Craig. Shirley is also survived by her sister Mary Lee Athey and brother Irvin Cooper Jr.
Family and friends can come share their memories and condolences from 9-10am at Colonial Funeral Home in Leesburg, VA on Saturday, June 18, 2016. The service will follow at the funeral home at 10am. The burial will follow at Hillsboro Cemetery, 15142-15230 Hillsboro Road, Hillsboro, VA.
Her presence here on Earth will be greatly missed, but Heaven just got sweeter, and we know she will be watching over us, the way she always did. She is now in a place where there is no pain and no worry, only peace and love, as she is wrapped in the loving arms of God.
