Shirley Ann Swart, 74 of Leesburg, VA, a long time resident of Loudoun County passed away on October 10, 2017 in Leesburg, VA. She was born in Culpeper, VA on September 25, 1943 to the late Martha (Jenkins) and Robert Jackson Smoot.
During her high school years, she worked as a waitress at the Johnson Charcoal House of Beef in Leesburg, VA. After graduating from Loudoun County High School, she worked for The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in Washington, DC from 1961 to 1969. Shirley raised their two children and assisted her husband, Carlton, in operating Gilberts Corner Exxon Station, Carlton F. Swart Trucking, and C.F. Swart Trucking. Shirley returned to the workforce in 1983 at Northrop Grumman, and retired in 2007. Shirley spent most of her free time supporting her beloved grandchildren in their sporting and school events. On the weekends, Shirley could be found shopping, baking, gardening, and watching her favorite Hallmark movies with her greatest life enjoyments; her husband, children, and grandchildren. Her love for family, sweets, 50's and country music is still prominent within the families' homes today.
Left to cherish her memory is her two children; Cheryl Kirkpatrick (Ray) of Leesburg, VA, and Frankie Swart (Michelle) of Hamilton, VA; five grandchildren; Stephanie Kirkpatrick, Austin Kirkpatrick, Rachel Kirkpatrick, Amanda Swart, and Kristen Kirkpatrick; siblings: Gid Smoot (Rema) of Midland, VA, Kenneth Smoot of Summit Point, WV, Rachel Pierson (Doug) of Charles Town, WV, and Elizabeth Moler of Summit Point, WV. She was predeceased by Carlton F. Swart; her loving husband of 46 years, father, Robert J. Smoot, mother, Martha A. Smoot, and brothers, Roger and Johnny Smoot. Shirley's greatest passion was spending time with her grandchildren and family.
Family and friends are invited to share their memories at Colonial Funeral Home; 201 Edwards Ferry Rd. NE, Leesburg, VA 20176 on Monday, October 16, 2017 at 11:00 am, with services to start at 12:00 pm. Burial following service in Union Cemetery, Leesburg, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Loudoun County Adult Day Center; 16501 Meadowview Ct, Leesburg, VA, 20175.
She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
