Obituary

Dr. Siegfried Joseph Kolmstetter, formerly of Roanoke, VA, died in Leesburg, VA on February 13, 2019 at the age of 97.

Siegfried was a physician at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salem for 28 years.  On February 14, 1992, he was chosen as the hospital's "Hands and Heart" recipient for his compassionate attitude and unselfish service on the behalf of veterans.

Siegfried was an avid photographer and hiker.  He spent many happy days hiking the Blue Ridge Mountains with his wife Ursula, family members, dog Mini and his many friends in the Roanoke Appalachian Trail Club.  He and his wife devoted many hours of volunteer time maintaining the Appalachian Trail and McAfee's Knob section.

At 97 years old, Siegfried lived a long life that was devoted to his family and his patients.  We will all miss him.

Dr. Kolmstetter is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ursula Kolmstetter residing in Leesburg, VA.  He is survived by his daughter Dr. Christine Kolmstetter, husband, Frank Pesce, of Las Vegas, NV; son Michael Kolmstetter, wife Dr. Elizabeth Kolmstetter, children Miles and Nicole Kolmstetter of Arlington, VA; daughter Karen Sayre, husband Stephen Sayre of Leesburg, VA.  Dr. Kolmstetter is survived by his brother Engelhard Kolmstetter, Germany, along with many nieces and nephews in Germany.
